Richwood Solar
Project summary
Richwood Solar is a proposed renewable energy project with 250-megawatt (MW) of solar and a 50MW battery energy storage system (BESS) on approximately 1,435 acres of land in Leesburg, Claibourne, and Taylor Townships, Union County, Ohio. The project offers a new source of economic development for the community, with new sources of revenue for schools and government services.
Economic benefits:
The project will generate economic opportunities by:
Creating both short-term (construction) and long-term (maintenance and operational) jobs in the local area
Creating other job opportunities supported through the spending and purchases by these workers at local businesses, shops, restaurants, and hotels
Solar power is one of the most cost-effective sources of electricity today, and its ability to generate power during high-demand times reduces the cost of electricity for all consumers.

Environmental commitment:
Richwood Solar will plant perennial plants to increase soil stability, improve infiltration, and aid biodiversity
Solar energy produced by Richwood Solar will reduce emissions and impacts from power generation in comparison to traditional power plants
The energy generated at Richwood Solar will deliver power to the substation. Richwood Solar has a nameplate capacity of 300 megawatts (MWs) that is equivalent to powering on average 55,500 homes. The solar-powered electricity generated will deliver clean, renewable electricity to the Ohio bulk power transmission system to serve the needs of electric utilities and their customers.
